Pinot Noir 'Moutere', Neudorf
A miniscule amount of this wine produced (224 cases) and as always (when winemakers Tim and Judy Finn are concerned) expressive, fine and elegant.
At the Moutere Valley shallow sandy loam topsoil overlays a draining clay subsoil based on the weathered gravels of an ancient river system. The gravelly virgin soil is of naturally low fertility and retains enough moisture to support grapevines through the dry summer months.
This is more akin to a top flight Burgundy that just NZ Pinot Noir. For my money one of the best if not the best Pinot’s in the New World. There’s the black mouth filling fruit you’d expect but behind it loves the lovely leathery, savoury, gamey palate with fine acidity. Buy one. I implore you. This is amazing.
