Quite a newcomer in ‘Old World’ wine terms, these chaps have only been making wine for 30 years. A year after they started up, they were the first producers in the history of Italy to make a single vineyard Moscato (1978), just to let everyone know they meant business! Aside from creating unique wines La Spinetta had a distinct advantage over their neighbours. Because they did not inherit any vineyards to limit them in their production, they were able to purchase the best available viticultural locations based modern knowledge.
The Bricco Quaglia was the first wine to be made at La Spinetta and, due to its success, now accounts for 20% of all production. The fruit is sourced from the single ‘Bricco Quaglia’ vineyard at high altitude, on clay and sand soils, and planted with vines that are on average no less than 25 years old.
Often considered as somewhat playful wines, the 'La Spinetta' estate really do take their Moscato seriously. This is probably one of the greatest examples of the variety available. Full bodied with a vibrant nose of white fruit and sweet petals. The palate is rounded but light and the ideal tipple for Sunday afternoons (or mornings!).
