With 105 acers under vine La Granja Nuestra Senora de Remelluri dates back to the 15th Century when the chaps very kindly donated 30 large pitchers of wine a year to the town!
More importantly Remelluri pioneered the idea of single estate vineyard. Even today this idea is very unusual, often Rioja houses hold a number of different vineyard spread over the appellation (most of which are contracted rather than owned. With one singular area under vine the quality of the grapes can be kept at an excellent level. There are a number of vines that date back to 1876 (pre-phylloxera) however the average age is around 30 years.

This is seriously rare, seriously good and seriously mad in its composition. The resulting wine is very refined, subtle and delicate but with an almost etheral presence on the palate. Amazing.
