Carmenere 'Orzada', Odfjell
Orzada is the Spanish word for steering a sailboat up against the wind, the English word is jibe and no doubt there’s a French, Italian, Polish, American word too. What this has to do with wine is anyone’s guess.
Names aside these are cracking value for money varietals all of which are 100% of the specified grape (unlike many other so called single varieties). Sensible amount of oak and good elevation allow for excellent balanced and taut wines to be created.
The red grape of Chile expresses charming black fruit, chocolate, coffee, truffle, plums and a little cassis. Rounded on the palate with velvety tannin and a long powerful finish.
